Earl Pomeroy (1915-2005) is one of the most widely-read historians of the American West. Pomeroy taught at the University of Oregon for a quarter-century, until accepting an appointment at the University of San Diego, where he remained for a decade until his retirement in 1984. He returned to Eugene, Oregon where he lived until he passed away in January 2005.
