The Dancing Flea
Description
A delightful tale of a little flea who becomes a famous dancer. As a newborn flea, hearing music for the first time, Errusika becomes convinced that she must become a dancer. Zizt the Mosquito, a mischievous and well-traveled insect, tells her about Russia, where every flea is a dancer. Errusikas best friend Karuso, the baritone dog, pleads with her to stay, but the daring young flea leaves home to pursue her dancing career in the land of Fleasova.
This is the first English publication of this story, accompanied by the original Basque text.
Reviews
In a culture where adults have little reason to fear for their childrens safety, where children are exposed to adult realities early in life, and where children participate extensively and openly in community experiences, Basque childrens books say outright what American books for children leave partly unspoken. As The Dancing Flea makes clear, such books value energy, realism, and overcoming. Elko Independent, January 23, 1997
